On December 1st, our school invited a famous Landscape architect called Mr. Zhao to introduce the knowledge of garden to all the students from Grade 10. Mr. Zhao is the professor from the Nanjing forestry university. He has built many famous gardens in Nanjing, such as Confucius temple.
First ,He talked about the history of gardens. Such as the relationship between the garden’s name and garden itself. He told us that the gardens’ style in China were designed by a chinese word’s contour called “YUAN”. Each part of this word has it own mean for the gardens.
Next, The professior told us the other countries’ definition of the gardens. In Lartin, the words such as garden、garten、Jardin were all from Rabbinic. In Rabbinic, there are two words that can combine together to represent the garden. One is Gen and another is Eden. As a result , Gen+Eden has a kind of mean for paradise.
Then, He told us the earliest form of gardens was found in 11th century BC, At that time, gardens were used to feed horses and cattle . In the West,gardens were found in 27th century BC. It was namedd Sacred grave. Later, He showed us the main four kinds of gardens in China. The first one is called Royal Garden, The second one is called private gardens, The third one is called Temple Gardens, The forth one is called Scenic Gardens. After he told us the kinds of gardens, He showed some Suzhou gardens' pictures to us, He also told us if you have a chance to go to Suzhou. Those gardens must be good places to visit. If you visit there in different seasons, you will have different kinds of feeling. Next, He talked about the feature of gardens. The way that we enjoy the gardens is we divide the stone and water into 2 parts. And then think about the different feelings that stone and water give you. At the end you combine these complex feelings. That’s a kind of feeling that It’s hard to describe. So all you can do is just enjoy it.
At last, he talked about the buildings’ distribution. Some kinds of gardens have different buildings’ distribution. Also, different buildings’ distribution will give you different feelings.and because of the time the professor didn’t finfish his presentation.But,whatever, it’s really hard to say the art of gardens in exactly words. So we should just to comprehend the artists’ ideas.
